🚐 BDO Van Flare Installation Guide

For Ford E-Series (Econoline) Flarespace Style Flares

πŸ”§ Tools & Materials Needed

  • Isopropyl alcohol & mineral spirits

  • Scotchbrite pad

  • Clean, lint-free cloths

  • Masking tape (gaffer’s tape recommended)

  • Caulking gun + rubber hose extension

  • 3M or Loctite 5555 adhesive (included)

  • Utility knife or air saw

  • Butyl window tape (if installing windows)

  • Safety glasses & gloves

πŸ§ͺ Step 1: Test Fit – Before You Cut or Paint!

  1. Dry Fit Both Sides: Make sure the glue flange sits flush all the way around.

  2. Leave Gaps Where Needed: There should be a 1/16” gap at the top. Do not force flares into the radius.

  3. Mark the Leading Edge: Use masking tape to mark your install line after dry fitting. This helps with alignment during final install.

❗ Do not cut or paint if the fit is off. Contact us with photos first.

🎨 Step 2: Paint the Flares

  • Paint to match your van after confirming test fit.

  • Re-dry fit again once painted to ensure alignment is still perfect.

βœ‚οΈ Step 3: Cut the Van

  • Cut the factory panel along the OEM window outline.

  • Prime bare metal edges to prevent rust.

🧼 Step 4: Surface Prep

  1. Clean flare glue flange with isopropyl alcohol.

  2. Scuff van bonding surface with scotchbrite pad.

  3. Wipe the area clean with mineral spirits. Let dry fully.

πŸͺ› Step 5: Apply Adhesive

  • Apply adhesive ½” from outer edge of flange in a triangle bead shape.

  • This shape reduces squeeze-out and mess.

🀝 Step 6: Flare Installation

  1. Align the flare using the top and vertical tape line.

  2. Press the flange only (not center) firmly into the van to set adhesive.

  3. Clean any adhesive overflow immediately with mineral spirits.

⏳ Step 7: Secure & Cure

  • Use tape (gaffer’s preferred) to hold flares in place for 12 hours minimum.

  • Let cure indoors at 60Β°F+ for at least 30 hours before stress or water exposure.

πŸͺŸ Step 8: Window Installation (if applicable)

  • Ensure drain holes face down.

  • Use butyl tape around full flange with no gaps or folds.

  • Do not overtighten screws. Check slider and lock movement.

πŸ’¦ Step 9: Water Test

  • Use a garden hose (no pressure washer).

  • Spray the flare area thoroughly while someone checks from inside for leaks with a flashlight.
